It’s a safe way to make signing in quicker and easier on devices you use often.

Important: Only choose “Trust This Device” on devices you are the sole user on. Don’t use it on shared or public computers, like at work or a library

You’ll also have the option to review or remove any devices you’ve trusted. This is helpful if you get a new phone, share a device with someone else, or just want to update your security settings.

Effective July 13, 2025 – All MyChart Users must utilize Two-Step Verification.

Protecting your health information is a top priority. No login method is completely secure and using just a username and password can still leave your account open to risks like phishing. Phishing is where someone tricks you into giving them your login information. To make your account more secure, our electronic medical record (Epic) now requires Two-Step Verification for all users.

“I don’t know what Two-Step Verification is, can you explain it?”

Two-step verification links your MyChart account access to your phone number, email, or both.  When logging in, you will be sent a code to the associated phone number or email that you will need to enter to get access to your account.  For information on the updated login process, please review Log Into MyChart.

“I already have Two-Step Verification enabled.  Do I need to do anything?”

Since 2022, Two-Step Verification has been enabled automatically for all new users.  If you have not opted to disable it, you will not need to make any changes.  However, we do recommend making sure both a phone number AND email are verified in the event that one of the methods is no longer available to you.

For example, if you have changed phone numbers and can no longer access the old number you could still receive the Two-Step Verification code to the verified email address.  For more information on verifying your phone number and email, please review Verify Personal Email and Phone Number

“I disabled Two-Step Verification.  Can I turn it back on before July 13?”

Yes!  You can re-enable Two-Step Verification by following these instructions: How to Enable Two-Step Verification in MyChart (Before It’s Required).  If you have not already set up Two-Step Verification, you will be required to do so with your first login starting July 13.

“This is frustrating! Do I have to do it everytime?”

There is a way to reduce the number of times you are asked to complete Two-Step Verification.  If you are using a personal device, you can mark that devices as a Trusted Device.  Trusted Devices, such as your own phone or computer, can be set to only require Two-Step Verification every 90 days.  For more information, please review Trusted Devices and How to Manage Them in MyChart

Keeping your personal information private is important, however you should have access to it when you need it.  By verifying both the email and the phone number associated with your MyChart account, you have two different ways to get access with Two-Step Verification!

Follow the steps here to validate your information.

When you sign in to MyChart, you may be asked to enter a code as part of Two-Step Authentication. This is an extra layer of security to help protect your health information. After entering the code, you’ll see an option called “Trust This Device.”

If you choose this option, MyChart will remember your device (like your personal phone, tablet, or home computer) for 90 days. This means you won’t need to enter a verification code every time you log in from that device during that time.

Only use this option on devices you own or use regularly, like:

  • Your personal smartphone
  • Your home computer or tablet

Avoid trusting devices that are:

  • Shared with others (like a family member’s phone)
  • Public (like a library or work computer)

If you ever want to remove a device you’ve trusted, you can do this in your MyChart account settings. This is helpful if:

  • You get a new phone or computer
  • You lose your device
  • You want to reset your list of trusted devices

We recommend checking your trusted device list every so often to make sure it’s up to date.

If you do not receive the code, check your email’s spam or junk folder and any other email addresses associated with
your account. If you still have not received a code, click the “Resend code” link.

From the MyChart menu, go to the Personal Information page and verify your email address and phone number are updated. You can also
turn on two-step verification from the Security Settings page by choosing to Verify with email or text message.

For more information, please review Upcoming Changes: Two-Step Verification.

When this feature is turned on, you will need a new login code each time you access your account.
You can select the “Trust this device” option when logging in with your code, which means you
won’t be required to enter a code on that browser or device for the next 90-days.

When you log into your MyChart account, you will be prompted to select email or text message to
receive a single-use six-digit login code that must be used to complete logging in.

Two-step verification is a security protocol that enhances the security of your account by using a
secondary device or account to verify your identity. It adds a quick step to the login process to help
make sure the user is who they say they are. Using two-step verification to protect online accounts is
a common practice among healthcare and other organizations that deal with secure information.

With MyChart access, you can manage care for you and your loved ones. Here is how to set up access.

NOTE:  This topic is focused on how to set up a MyChart account and access your health information.  For instructions on how to log in once you have an account, please review Log Into MyChart.

There are several methods by which you can access MyChart for yourself or others you care for.  Because MyChart provides access to protected health information, we have specific processes and safeguards in place to ensure access is appropriately granted in compliance with state and federal laws.

“I want to access my own MyChart account.”

MyChart login access is available to eligible patients served by Franciscan Health or our partners. To be eligible for your own MyChart login, you must meet at least one of the following conditions:

Children (age 11 and younger) cannot log into MyChart.  However, a parent/guardian can be granted proxy access to the child’s MyChart account as outlined below.

“I want to access someone else’s MyChart account.”

Adults (age 18 and older) can be granted access to another patient’s MyChart account. This is known as Proxy Access. The way this is done depends on the patient’s age and capacity to make their own medical decisions.

When someone is not capable of making their own decisions regarding their healthcare or access to protected health information, special care is needed to ensure that access to their MyChart account as a proxy is appropriate and supported with the proper legal documentation.  For this reason, we currently do not allow requests to be submitted electronically for this type of proxy access.

To get proxy access as a caregiver of someone meeting these criteria, please call the MyChart Support Center at 1-877-900-5741 to discuss what documentation is needed based on your situation.

Limited Adolescent Proxy Access

A parent/guardian can be granted Limited Adolescent Proxy Access WITHOUT the adolescent patient’s consent.  Limit Adolescent Proxy Access is automatically applied to parent/guardians that have been a proxy for their child prior to reaching age 12. Limited Adolescent Proxy Access grants the parent/guardian specific access to key information and features.   This includes the ability to view some vaccination records, schedule appointments, and pay bills.

If you have never been a proxy for your child that is now an adolescent, you can review Requesting Limited Adolescent Proxy Access

Full Adolescent Proxy Access

A parent/guardian can be grated Full Adolescent Proxy Access with consent of the adolescent patient.  Full Adolescent Proxy Access enables access to all information and features available. More information on requesting full proxy access can be found by reviewing Requesting Full Adolescent Proxy Access

Parents/guardians can be granted proxy access their child’s (age 11 and younger) MyChart account.  Proxy access allows the parent/guardian to review the child’s medical history, manage appointments, message the child’s provider, and much more.

NOTE: When a child reaches the age of 12, proxy access for the parent/guardian is automatically changed to Limited Adolescent Proxy Access.

NOTE: If you are a mother who delivered your newborn at a Franciscan facility after May 14, 2024, you may already have proxy access granted through Automatic Newborn Proxy setup.

Yes, if you are signed up as a proxy for that family member. Click on the icon for the family member you want to ask a question about. You will then be able to view that person’s medical information and can send the question to the appropriate provider. It is very important to access your family member’s account because any communication with your provider from your account will be placed in your health record. This information would not appear in the correct health record and could potentially jeopardize medical care.

Yes, you can. This is called proxy access and allows you (as a proxy) to log in to your personal MyChart account and then connect to information regarding your family member.
