Upcoming Changes: Two-Step Verification
Effective July 13, 2025 – All MyChart Users must utilize Two-Step Verification.
Protecting your health information is a top priority. No login method is completely secure and using just a username and password can still leave your account open to risks like phishing. Phishing is where someone tricks you into giving them your login information. To make your account more secure, our electronic medical record (Epic) now requires Two-Step Verification for all users.
“I don’t know what Two-Step Verification is, can you explain it?”
Two-step verification links your MyChart account access to your phone number, email, or both. When logging in, you will be sent a code to the associated phone number or email that you will need to enter to get access to your account. For information on the updated login process, please review Log Into MyChart.
“I already have Two-Step Verification enabled. Do I need to do anything?”
Since 2022, Two-Step Verification has been enabled automatically for all new users. If you have not opted to disable it, you will not need to make any changes. However, we do recommend making sure both a phone number AND email are verified in the event that one of the methods is no longer available to you.
For example, if you have changed phone numbers and can no longer access the old number you could still receive the Two-Step Verification code to the verified email address. For more information on verifying your phone number and email, please review Verify Personal Email and Phone Number
“I disabled Two-Step Verification. Can I turn it back on before July 13?”
Yes! You can re-enable Two-Step Verification by following these instructions: How to Enable Two-Step Verification in MyChart (Before It’s Required). If you have not already set up Two-Step Verification, you will be required to do so with your first login starting July 13.
“This is frustrating! Do I have to do it everytime?”
There is a way to reduce the number of times you are asked to complete Two-Step Verification. If you are using a personal device, you can mark that devices as a Trusted Device. Trusted Devices, such as your own phone or computer, can be set to only require Two-Step Verification every 90 days. For more information, please review Trusted Devices and How to Manage Them in MyChart
Two-step verification is a security protocol that enhances the security of your account by using a
secondary device or account to verify your identity. It adds a quick step to the login process to help
make sure the user is who they say they are. Using two-step verification to protect online accounts is
a common practice among healthcare and other organizations that deal with secure information.
For more information, see the main topic: Upcoming Changes: Two-Step Verification
